What is Dysport?

Dysport or abobotulinumtoxin A is a prescription injection that serves as a wrinkle treatment and works almost like Botox. If administered by a skilled cosmetic surgeon, the results can be exceptional. It can give you a young and radiant look which can also last a very long time. However, there are certain factors that you must keep in mind before and after the procedure as these can contribute immensely to the recovery process and the end result.

Here’s what to expect during a Dysport procedure consultation

If you are planning to go for a Dysport procedure you are most likely looking for a long term solution and effective treatment for wrinkles. However, you need to keep in mind that with Dysport you can only address the ‘dynamic wrinkles’ as opposed to the ‘static wrinkles’. Dynamic wrinkles are essentially the fold in your skin that appear as a result of continued facial movement while static wrinkles refer to the fine lines and furrows that appear due to aging and the loss of collagen.

When you go for a consultation for your Dysport procedure, your medical practitioner will explore a variety of options with you before deciding on the best approach and procedure. They will also delve deep into the causes behind your skin problems. Apart from this, they will also want to know several details that can impact the wrinkle treatment, such as your medical and menstrual history, lifestyle, allergies, existing skin care routine, family history, work-related stress, and much more.

When they do your physical examination, you may need to make various facial expressions for them to understand dynamic wrinkle severity. The findings and a treatment course plan will then be discussed with you.

How can you prepare for your Dysport treatment?

There are certain points that you can keep in mind before your procedure that can also help in preventing complications later.

  • Stay away from smoking and alcohol consumption at least a week before your procedure is scheduled as this can disrupt the process of healing
  • Avoid the use of blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs at least a couple of days before your appointment. Blood clotting process can also get disrupted by other supplements such as Ginkgo biloba, turmeric, garlic and vitamin E
  • If you are prone to bruises, you can start taking bruise-preventing arnica or bromelain around 2-4 days before the procedure is due
  • Before coming in for the appointment, wash your face well and keep it free of any makeup

What can you expect during your Dysport session?

A Dysport procedure is very similar to what you can expect during a Botox injection. Your cosmetic surgeon will first clean up the area of treatment well before the procedure commences. You may be asked to make certain facial expressions such as a smile or frown so that they can see have a better look at the muscles that need to be worked on and also decide on the proper dosage. After that, the actual injection is pushed and the entire procedure takes no more than about 15 minutes. You may also use an ice pack or a numbing cream on the area of treatment before the procedure in case you are sensitive to pain.

Do’s

While there is no surgical wound that you may need to take care of after the Dysport treatment, you may suffer mild bruising or have soreness for a few days after the procedure. In case you experience them, there are certain things you can do to take care of them.
