WHAT IS BRACHIOPLASTY?

Known more commonly as an “arm lift,” brachioplasty is a cosmetic procedure for the upper arm area. The area is prone to skin laxity and pockets of fat. You may be a good candidate if you notice tissue that wiggles when you wave to someone or shake your arms while holding them over your head.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM AN ARM LIFT?

Brachioplasty requires an incision from the backside of the elbow to the armpit, so you should be prepared to have a lengthy scar. Once the incision is made, Dr. Shah may remove small amounts of fat with liposuction. The tissue is pulled taut over the upper arm, and the excess is trimmed before the incision is closed.

After the surgery, you will need to rest at home for a few days, so we recommend that you have someone stay with you to help you with eating, hygiene and other daily tasks. You may be prescribed an antibiotic and pain medication to reduce the chances of complications.

Recovery from an arm lift can take several months, even after the incision is healed. You will need to limit your activities, and you may need to wear a compression wrap to control swelling.
